I’m Jeff Cato, the owner of Cato Insurance Group, Inc.

I’m a native Floridian and I grew up in Plantation, Florida. My father has been a State Farm agent in our community for over 31 years, so I know a lot about the industry. He used to do sales presentations with my sister and me when we were younger so we would have an idea about his business and the insurance industry. My parents are amazingly supportive and have always been there for me. In addition, they have always given me great advice; however, one thing I always remember was when Dad said: “Son, if you always do the right thing, you’ll never have to look back.”  I live by that saying in my personal and professional life to this day.

After graduating from South Plantation High School, I attended the University of Florida in Gainesville—Go Gators!   After receiving my degree, I tried my hand in the telecom industry.  Honestly, I hated every second of it. I wanted to have personal connections with my clients and co-workers and it was so cut throat I felt that a connection was missing. So my father offered me a job in his agency. After finally finding my niche and something that I really enjoyed doing, I felt it was necessary to get some industry experience. After some discussion, I had an opportunity to work in a start-up Nationwide agency.

 At the time Nationwide was allowing their agents to broker business. It was my boss and me building a small book of business. While there, I realized that companies don’t all have the customer at the heart of what they do. What I did like, however, was the ability to offer my clients every product line in one place. That is why I ultimately chose Allstate. Allstate has an excellent reputation in the business. They always try to do the right thing by their clients. They also allow their agents to broker whatever business Allstate will not write.  As an agent, I get the best of both worlds. I have an amazing company like Allstate behind me, but I can also offer a full line of products to my clients no matter the market condition.
